Finally got to grips with uploading some of the Open Educational Resources today. The interface is a little confusing and its pretty time consuming to add all of the accurate metadata, descriptions and titles for each file if you're not the originator. I imagine if each author starts to add their own resources it will make the process easier and accurate. I worry that I might give a wrong description to some of the content as I'm only scan reading it to get the gist of what it is.
The other thing thats really difficult to estimate is the amount of hours attached to each file. I'm keeping a spreadsheet showing the estimated number of hours but I think this could be improved if the author/originator of the resource clearly specifies the duration when they send it through to me or Simon.
Nicks video resources on how to use the repository came in handy today cos I missed a crucial stage and couldn't figure out how to get the keywords in (!pretty important!) The video isn't in the repository though, you need to go here
http://www.leedsmet.ac.uk/inn/repository/video/. I'll get it added as I think it should be in the repository as a help file for other users.
I've been thinking how the process of authors/originators/owners etc can be streamlined and made as easy as possible. And i've been thinking that the process could not realistically be allocated to an
'administrator' without a major risk of errors and resources that are un-findable. As an example, I was uploading a powerpoint presentation, pretty straightforward on the surface, simply presenting information - in actual fact the presentation ppt file is just slides that support a staff workshop about problem based learning and learning spaces. If I hadn't read the slides, I wouldn't have known that and the resource would have been wrongly classified in the repository. I'll keep documenting little things like this as I think they'll be useful to users uploading to, and users trying to find in, the repository shortly.
(and I am trying to be a more consistent blogger, honest!! 2 days in a row now)
