Using URL redirects to track usage
In the Elluminate session last week, Phil Barker talked about using URL redirects to track usage - simple yet effective and very easy to implement.
As well as tracking the usage of individual resources - simply by putting the URL of a resource through a (free!) service like http://bit.ly/ this technique could also be used to monitor use through specific dissemination channels.
